Concert of sacred music dedicated to St. Jovan Vladimir held in the Central Military Club
In the Ceremonial Hall of the Central Military Club tonight, Nis Church singing family "Branko" had a concert of sacred music. On this occasion, audio and video edition with compositions of Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac titled "Music and painting through the world" has been promoted.
The ceremony was attended by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, Metropolitan of Montenegro and Littoral Amfilohije Radovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Nenad Neric, Serbian Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simovic, 16 bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church Council, President of the Medijana City Municipality of Nis Zoran Stojanovic, officers of the Serbian Armed Forces, numerous priests and monks, as well as lovers of sacred music.
The solemn gathering was blessed by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej saying that tonight's concert is dedicated to the celebration of one thousandth anniversary of passion of Saint Prince Jovan Vladimir.
Metropolitan of Montenegro and Littoral Amfilohije addressed the audience in the crowded hall of the Serbian Armed Forces with a homily. He said on the occasion that the Holy Assembly marked this year as the year of Saint Jovan Vladimir, ruler of Duklja and Serbia, the most prominent Serbian principality from the 10 century.
- "What makes this ruler exceptional is his piety, justice and peace loving, but also a willingness to sacrifice himself for his people. In the year of marking the significant jubilee, the relics of this saint will be transferred from the monastery near Elbasan to Bar, where the consecration of the cathedral dedicated to this saint and martyr will take place."
The festive programme included the actress Ivana Zigon who, accompanied by the ensemble "Kosovo peonies" performed a hymn to St. John Vladimir, and the audience had the opportunity, apart from the programme of "Branko" Church-singing family, to enjoy in the Kosovo songs, and the songs from the audio video disc in which musical architecture of Stevan Mokranjac follows the architecture of the Serbian monasteries.
